Our philosophy

Safety and environmental care should belong to and be for everyone. Public authorities, private companies and individuals all bear responsibility for a safe and environmentally friendly (working) environment. As a non-profit organisation with a social purpose, BIG aims to assist all parties involved in their specific obligations and duties.

BIG therefore provides accurate and objective information and advice, all user-friendly and tailored to the customer. We stand for quality and work according to a certified ISO 9001 quality system.

  • All information is checked by BIG before it is entered in the database. Legislation is constantly changing: REACH, European legislation, national legislations, transport regulations, it is not easy to follow everything and keep things up-to-date ... for BIG, it is the basis of our database. Every substance is reclassified by BIG, not that we don’t trust the information, but we want to be 200 % sure about the quality we deliver.

    BIG has worked out its own quality manual and has obtained its ISO certificate since 2004.

    Many software packages download their data from the internet without any form of revision. In the process of drafting literature studies, we come across many SDSs from different sources and unfortunately we find that 75 % of these SDSs do not comply with the legal requirements. No surprise that several of these software dealers have contracts with BIG for integration of BIG-data in their systems.

  • It is our belief, keeping the best interest of the client in mind, that BIG forms a link between government and industry. Through our contacts with various governmental institutions, we are able to provide a univocal interpretation of the legal requirements towards the industry, and vice versa our numerous contacts with the industry enable us to show the government how far apart law and practice are sometimes.

    In extensive literature studies, our specialists test all data against various information sources in order to form an objective opinion.

  • BIG employs more than 40 enthusiastic people with each their own specialisation. Our people are asked to sit in official local, national and even European workgroups because of their know-how. BIG is also a welcome guest at many conventions and conferences, where we are often asked to give lectures and presentations about our field of expertise.
